Pine Tree Powerlifting
On Thursday March 2, twelve Lady Pirates competed in the Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association Region 3 Division 1 Championship that was held here in our very own Pirate Center. The Lady Pirates finished 3rd Place as a team behind Forney and Midlothian, and also accomplished several PRs (personal records) and seven medals in their respective weight classes.
The following young ladies set personal records: Madison Pike, Destiny Jackson, Nallely Vasquez and Mackinza Scott
The following young ladies set personal records and received a medal: Alesia Anthony placed 5th, Ana Juarez placed 5th, Jacqueline Ramirez placed 4th and Sadia Pitre placed 4th
The following young ladies set personal records, received a medal and are State Qualifiers or Alternates: Norma Ortega placed 1st, Callie Lightfoot (also broke the Regional Record in Bench) placed 1st and Cyndi Ponton placed 3rd
I am very proud of these young ladies and the season that they have had, and I look forward to seeing what our state qualifier can accomplish!
Meet Coach Portley
Coach Portley is a graduate of Texas A&M – Commerce and earned his bachelors of science degree in kinesiology and sports studies. He and his wife Regina have two children, Dominique (21) who is a senior at the University of Texas in Austin, and Adrian (19) a sophomore at Texas A&M – Commerce. He has coached previously at Overton HS. Coach Portley’s powerlifting team won two state championships at Overton HS and he is currently the Texas High School women’s powerlifting association Region 3, Div 3 director. He will be coaching football and powerlifting for us at Pine Tree HS.
Meet Coach Denman
Coach Denman is a 1989 graduate of Spring Hill High School. He graduated from Southern Arkansas University in 1994 with a B.S. in Education. He and his wife Amy have two children, Caroline (8) and Talon (3). Coach Denman’s previous coaching experience includes Pleasant Grove (five years), Hallsville (two years), Spring Hill (six years), and Harmony (four years). Coach Denman will also be Pine Tree’s head powerlifting coach and will teach credit recovery and physical education.
