Jody Berryhill – Athletic Director
Coach Berryhill is originally from Bradenton, FL. He attended Southwest Baptist University and has a degree in Sports Management and Sports Medicine. Coach Berryhill has 32 years experience in his field with 29 of those years here at Pine Tree. He also spent 3 years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Coach Berryhill and his wife Theresa of 35 years have 2 daughters who are both graduates of Pine Tree and 2 sons-in-law who wish they had attended Pine Tree. Most importantly, he has the “World’s Best Grandchildren, Ella Kate, Olivia Ryan, and newest arrival, his first grandson Daxton Blaine!” |
Kerry Lane – Head Football / Asst Athletic Director
Coach Lane and his wife Jamie have two sons. Trey (9) who attends Parkway Elementary and Tyler (5) who attends Pine Tree Primary. Trey and Tyler love being at the fieldhouse with their big brothers. They also love playing football, basketball, baseball, & golf. The Lane Family attends Grace Creek Church. Coach Lane is a graduate of Union Grove High School and Stephen F. Austin State University. He is starting his 4th season as the Head Coach of the Pirates and is blessed to be part of the Pine Tree Community. |
Jason Bachman
Coach Bachman is the football offensive coordinator, receivers coach, and he also coaches track. Coach Bachman comes to Pine Tree from Calvary (2010-2016) and Evangel (2008-2009). Coach Bachman played receiver in high school and won 3 state championships in 2001, 2002 and 2004. As their receivers coach, he helped coach Evangel to state finalist in 2008 and to a state championship in 2009. He also coached Calvary to back to back state champions in 2013 and 2014 as their offensive coordinator. |
Alex Barron
Alex Barron is a 2006 New Diana Graduate. From Longview, TX, he attended Pine Tree from pre-K to 11th grade. While at New Diana, he was 1st Team All-State, All East Texas, and All-District Kicker in 2005. He still holds the class 2A Texas State record for the longest field goal at 57 yards. Coach Barron attended UT Arlington, majoring in Kinesiology. He played 5 seasons of professional arena football for the Texas Rattlers, Mesquite Wranglers, and Texas Revolution. This year he will be the football special teams coach, assistant Varsity & JV soccer coach, as well as the head goalie coach. |
Kyle Burns
Coach Burns is originally from Pittsburg, TX. He attended Stephen F. Austin State University and has a Bachelor of Science degree. Coach Burns has 21 years coaching experience, with 18 of those at Pine Tree. His experience includes various positions/sports from JH to HS at Union Grove (2007-2010) and 2 stints at Pine Tree (1999-2007 & 2010-present). Coach Burns and his wife Tina have 2 children, son Kole (16) and daughter Taylor (24). |
Lacy Coldiron
Coach Coldiron is the Head Volleyball Coach and Asst. Track Coach. This will be her 7th year teaching and coaching. She was previously at Kilgore and Taylor High School. She is very excited to be a part of the Pine Tree program and working to Build Something Special. Coach Coldiron grew up in Garland and finished out high school at Royse City High School. She then went to college at Angelo State University where she got her Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics. She recently finished her Masters in Education Administration through Lamar University. Outside of work, Coach Coldiron is involved in a multitude of sports and activities. She enjoys playing sand volleyball and participating in obstacle course mud runs with her husband. She spends as much time as she possibly can with their two young girls, Gracelynn and Zylie. |
Wayne Daniels
Coach Daniels is a graduate of Kilgore High School and Texas Christian University. He played football while at TCU and was a member of the 2011 Rose Bowl Championship team. He is teaching 9th grade World Geography for Pine Tree, and he will coach football and basketball. Coach Daniels and his wife Meghan have a one year old son named Titan. He is thrilled to start his career as a Pirate. |
Larry Denkins – Head Athletic Trainer
Coach Denkins is from Longview, TX and is an alumnus of Pine Tree High School. He attended East Texas Baptist University and received his B.S. in Athletic Training. He has been an Athletic Trainer at Pine Tree since the Fall of 2008. Coach Denkins has two dogs, Leo (4 months) and Momo (7 years old). |
Cody Ellis
Coach Ellis is our Strength & Conditioning Director and is in his 14th year coaching at the High School and Collegiate level. He holds a Master of Education in Kinesiology from the University of Texas at Tyler. He is certified by the USAW as a Sports Performance Coach and the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Performance Enhancing Specialist. Coach Ellis is also Safe Sport Certified and has completed the USADA 2019 Coach’s Advantage Program. This allows Coach Ellis to become 1 of 75 Strength Coaches in the State of Texas to be named in the directory for the United States of America Weightlifting. Coach Ellis is also a member of the National High School Strength Coaches Association. He played baseball at Tyler Junior College and the University of Arkansas at Monticello. He returned to coach at Tyler Junior College after graduation from UAM and won a National Championship in 2007 as an assistant coach. Ellis has been a Strength & Conditioning Director at Henderson ISD, Brownsboro ISD, and also Frankston ISD. Coach Ellis and his wife Allison have a 11 year old daughter named Cadence and a 2 year old son named Cannon. |
Nicole Goodman
Coach Goodman started coaching and teaching at Pine Tree in 2019. She is a 7th grade girls volleyball, basketball, and track coach, and she teaches 7th grade science. Coach G is a graduate from Harleton High School as well as the University of North Texas. Nicole enjoys spending time with her wife, Rachel, her family, and her pets. She enjoys playing games, theatre, traveling, and the outdoors. She hopes to inspire perseverance, sportsmanship, and positivity. Go Lady Pirates! |
Rachel Goodman
Coach Goodman graduated from Pine Tree in 2007, played volleyball at ETBU, and earned a B.S. in Health Promotion from UNT. After teaching and coaching at Austin ISD and Trinity School of Texas, she became a youth group coordinator in Denton, TX. In 2018, she started working at Pine Tree as a special education teacher and volleyball, basketball, and track coach. She enjoys spending time with her spouse Nicole, hiking with her dog Reba, traveling, playing racquetball and sand volleyball, being outdoors, dancing, drawing, reading, and watching movies. Rachel strives to always have a positive attitude and hopes to teach her students to do the same. |
Taylor Guinn
Coach Guinn is a 2010 graduate of Idalou HS, and a 2015 graduate of Texas Tech University. He and his wife Callie have twin 13 month old boys, Graham and Grayson. Coach Guinn is entering his 4th year of coaching, and his 1st year at Pine Tree. Coach Guinn will be teaching Texas History at the Jr. High, and coaching cross country, basketball, track, and tennis. |
Carol Halcumb
Coach Halcumb is a Pine Tree graduate who will be teaching 5th/6th grade Physical Education at Pine Tree Middle School and coaching 7th grade volleyball and basketball. She will also be assisting with softball. Coach Halcumb has coached at Gladewater (volleyball and basketball) where she coached volleyball into the playoffs; and also at Overton (volleyball, basketball and softball) where she lead softball to the playoffs 2 years. |
Alton Hawkins
Coach Hawkins is from Longview, TX. He attended Henderson State University where he earned his B.S. in Business. Coach Hawkins has been coaching for 26 years with 19 of those years at Pine Tree. He has also coached at Mt. Pleasant HS. Coach Hawkins has been married to his wife Deidre for 26 years, and their daughter Debra, and son Victor are both Pine Tree graduates. He also has three grandchildren, Myrcall, Avery and Noah. Coach Hawkins is also the proud pastor of Pleasant Hill-Leigh CME Church, in Karnack, Texas. |
Robin Herber
Coach Robin Herber is looking forward to another great year as the Lady Pirate head coach. She is a graduate of Celina High School. She played at Paris Junior College where she was named 1st Team TEAC All – Conference and a NJCAA Academic All American. She then played for UT Pan American (now University of Texas Rio Grande Valley) where she was named 1st team all conference. She received her B.S. in Business Education from University of North Texas in 1996. Coach Herber has been greatly impacted by her parents, both coaches who instilled a strong work ethic that she feels is vital to success. She currently teaches World History Advanced Placement and U.S. History at Pine Tree High School. She enjoys basketball and history, of course, and spending time with her family. She hopes to have a positive impact on those whom she has had the honor of teaching and coaching. Coach Herber and her husband Brandon, have two boys – Brandt and Cale – who attend Pine Tree High School. |
Jacob Holder
Coach Holder is coaching our safeties and serving as our head track coach. He is originally from Rowlett, TX. After playing football at Ouachita Baptist University, Coach Holder began his teaching and coaching career at Rockwall High School in 2006. He is joining Pine Tree this year after short stints at Mount Vernon as the defensive coordinator, Grapevine as a defensive backs coach, and North Forney as the defensive coordinator. He and his wife, Megan, have two kids. Hannah (7) is attending Birch Elementary and Jude (5) is attending the Primary campus. The Holders are excited to be joining the Pine Tree Family! |
Emily James
Coach James was born and raised in Longview and spent first through twelfth grade at Pine Tree, graduating in 2014. She went to Texas Tech University and studied kinesiology. This is Emily's second year as a teacher and first year coaching cross country. She teaches Integrated Physics and Chemistry along with Environmental Science at the high school. Emily LOVES being a Pine Tree Pirate! |
Chase Jordan
Coach Jordan graduated from Hallsville High School. He then went on to play baseball at Navarro Junior College while being a part of the 2011 National Championship team. After that, he went to Lamar College and graduated with a general studies degree. He and his wife Lindsay moved to Pine Tree this year along with their 2 year old daughter, Baylor. He will coach Football, Basketball, and Baseball this year while teaching in the Excel program. |
Beeper Kraus
Coach Kraus is entering his 8th year coaching. He has spent 6 years at his Alma Mater (Pine Tree) assisting in basketball and head golf, and 2 years at Spring Hill where he assisted in football, basketball and was the Head Golf Coach. He is a 2000 graduate of Pine Tree and played as a member of the 1998-99 Regional Finalist and 1999-2000 Bi-district Champions. After High School, Coach Kraus attended Stephen F. Austin State University and received a B.S. in Kinesiology in 2004. He is currently teaching Special Education at Pine Tree High School for his 5th year. “I enjoy my students and watching them become young adults, and the opportunity to have a positive effect on our youth. I am very excited to be a part of these young men and women's lives and watch them grow through the game of golf.” His wife of 13 years is Amanda (Pine Tree Alumni, Kindergarten teacher at PT) and they have two children, son, Kingston a 5th grader at Pine Tree who has a huge interest in golf, basketball, & soccer and daughter, Kourtlyn, a 5-year-old Kindergartner, who is in charge. “I love spending time with my family, music and just being a dad.” |
Garrett Methvin – JH Boys’ Coordinator
Coach Methvin is a 2009 Spring Hill High School Graduate. He played one year at the University of Arkansas as a pitcher on the baseball team before transferring to LeTourneau University in the fall of 2010. He played the remainder of his career at LeTourneau as a Pitcher and First Baseman when LeTourneau won its first ever ASC Championship in 2014. Garrett graduated from LeTourneau with a 3.9 GPA, majoring in Kinesiology, and currently working on his Masters in Education. He coached Baseball the first two years of his career at Central Heights High School in Nacogdoches, Texas. This is his 4th year at Pine Tree where he is the new Boys Junior High Athletics Coordinator. He is also the Varsity Assistant Baseball Coach. He is married to Leighchele Methvin, his wife of 9 years and has 4 beautiful children. Elijah (Eli)-7, Lilly-6, and Adileigh (Adi)-4, and Asher-1.5. Garrett is excited for another great year at Pine Tree and an opportunity to build something special! |
Erin Miller
Coach Miller is a fourth year math teacher (three of which have been at PT), coach of the 7th grade Junior High volleyball team, and assistant coach of the PT Girls Soccer team. She graduated from East Texas Baptist University in 2016, got married in 2018, and has two fur babies Alice and Desperado. |
Rachael Phillips LAT, ATC – Assistant Athletic Trainer
Coach Phillips is from Port Aransas, TX and attended Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi where she received her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. This is her fifth year at Pine Tree as a proud Pine Tree Pirate! Her previous experience includes working with Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s men’s basketball, men & women’s track and cross country, and various high school sports at Mary Carroll High School. She has two pups that she adores, Momo (7 years) and Leo (4 months). |
Kip Picarella
Coach Picarella (aka. Coach P.) and his wife Alyssa have a son, Benjamin (<1yr). He attended East Texas Baptist University and received his B.S. in Athletic Training, as well as recently graduating with his Masters Degree from the University of Hawaii. He has 7 years experience with sports teams ranging from Junior High to Professional athletes, most notably the United States soccer national teams. He and his family are excited to be a part of the Pine Tree family! |
Rodrick Portley
Coach Portley is a graduate of Texas A&M – Commerce and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Sports Studies. He has two children, Dominique (23) who currently works as a Behavioral Therapist for Steps to Progress in Houston, and Adrian (22) who is a first year teacher in Sulphur Springs ISD. He has coached previously at Overton HS and he is currently the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association Region 3 Div. 1 director. He will be coaching football and powerlifting and teaching in the Special Ed. Dept. for us at Pine Tree HS. |
Allison Ratcliff
Coach Ratcliff is excited to begin her first year as a teacher and coach at Pine Tree ISD! She's the 7th grade coach for volleyball and basketball also serves as the Varsity Assistant for the Lady Pirate Softball team. Coach Ratcliff has been teaching and coaching for nine years having taught at various schools in East and Central Texas, but her love is the Piney Woods! She's excited to be close to her family and friends, especially her niece and nephew, Harper and Cannon. Coach Ratcliff is active in church in Longview and enjoys singing in choir, she also is an avid fisher and hunter, and LOVES the TEXAS RANGERS!!! It's a great day to BE A PIRATE!! ARRRRGGGGGHH!!! |
Angel Rocha
Coach Rocha is a graduate from Tatum High and received his college degree from the University of Texas at Tyler, majoring in English and Spanish. Coach Rocha is our Head Boys Soccer Coach at Pine Tree as well as assists with the defensive line in football. Coach Rocha has been coaching since 2008. He spent four years at Grace Community as a Varsity Defensive Line coach and Assistant Varsity Boys soccer coach, before returning to coach at his alma mater to become the boys Head Soccer coach. At Tatum, he helped build the program and lead it to its UIL berth as well as helping the program reach the playoffs every year. |
Steven Rockwell
Coach Rockwell is a 2007 graduate of Ore City HS. He and his wife Kawaljulah have a two and a half old son named Elijah. Coach Rockwell is entering his third year of coaching football, basketball, and track. He will also be teaching Texas History at the JH. He has previous coaching experience at Hawkins HS defensive coordinator in (2016-17) and Ore City (2015-16). At Ore City HS, Coach Rockwell was all-district and all-east Texas RB/LB. He graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 2012 with a B.B.S. in Sports Fitness and Leisure Studies. He was also a four-year starter on the football team and was selected all-conference and all-region RB. |
Kennedy Sampson
Coach Sampson is from Longview, TX and a proud Pine Tree alumna. She played college volleyball at Cisco College and graduated from The University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelor of Science degree. This is her first year coaching and teaching, and she is loving every minute of it. Coach Sampson teaches special education and is an assistant volleyball and basketball coach. Sports has been a big part of her life growing up and throughout college. She was blessed to work and be a part of developing The Final Four in 2018. Her finance, Sean Stacy, is the assistant baseball coach at North East Texas Community College and they recently just moved back from Niagara Falls, NY. “I come from a big family of coaches and some might say it is in my blood. I love what I do and who I do it for, and most of all I love being here at Pine Tree!” |
Wesley Schoon
Coach Schoon is a graduate of Harmony High School. He played football and baseball at East Texas Baptist University (2012-13) and is a graduate of Tarleton State University where he majored in Kinesiology Fitness Management. Coach Schoon is going into his fourth year of teaching and coaching here at Pine Tree ISD. |
Brandon Shaver
Coach Shaver is the new Head Boys Basketball coach this year at Pine Tree. He grew up in Diana, TX where he was Valedictorian and 3 years all-state, but has spent the last 18 years in Louisiana. He met his wife Megan of 15 years at Northwestern State University while he was playing basketball there. They have three very active and amazing boys. Jaxon is 13 and goes to Pine Tree Junior High, Kade is 10 and goes to Pine Tree Middle School, and Bryce is 7 and goes to Pine Tree Parkway Elementary. Coach Shaver graduated from St. Leo University with a degree in Business, but never stopped being a student of the game. He started an organization called ArkLaTex Elite basketball in Shreveport, a training program that focused on developing young athletes with the core fundamentals of basketball. He’s coached at Loyola, Calvary, and Central School in Grand Cane. This year he will be working on implementing a boys developmental basketball league for Pine Tree and helping to coach the safeties and wide receivers on the Junior High football team. |
Tyler Simmons
Coach Simmons is married to Paige Simmons and they have three children, Mack (7), Sarah (4) and Hallie (3). He will be coaching football and track, and teaching Economics in his fourth year at Pine Tree. Coach Simmons is a 2005 graduate of White Oak High School and has previously coached at Marshall, Quitman, Spring Hill, and Pittsburg. He played football at Trinity Valley Community College and East Texas Baptist University, and graduated from ETBU in 2009. |
Mary Lauren Tampke
Coach Tampke is entering her 2nd year as Head Swim Coach & JH Swim Coach at Pine Tree and her 5th year as a teacher. She is a graduate of Gladewater High School and attended LeTourneau University where she received her B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies. While attending LeTourneau, she was a member of both the Tennis and Soccer teams. She has been married to her husband Chris for 9 years and they have 2 beautiful daughters - Avery (6) who attends PT Primary, and Ashtyn (3). Coach Tampke is looking forward to an exciting swim season! Go Pirates! |
Pat Tomberlain
Coach Tomberlain is a 1992 graduate of Atlanta High School and earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Kinesiology from Tarleton State University. Coach Tomberlain has 24 years total experience teaching science and coaching tennis. He has coached previously at Tarleton State, Burkeville and Marshall. Coach Tomberlain and his wife Susan have 2 boys in Pine Tree schools, Jackson (11) and John Patrick (14). Coach T enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, reading sci-fi and anything 80s. He also enjoys learning along with his students every year! |
Melissa Waddell
Coach Waddell is starting her second year here at Pine Tree. She graduated from Atlanta High School where she lettered in volleyball, basketball, and softball. Coach Waddell attended East Texas Baptist University where she played volleyball and softball. She received her B.S.E. from ETBU in 1999 with a major in kinesiology and a minor in history. Coach Waddell is excited about continuing the growth of the Lady Pirate softball program. Go Pirates!! |
Lisa Wilson – JH Girls’ Coordinator
Coach Wilson is our JH girls athletic coordinator and has coached at Pine Tree for 25 years. She and her husband Shane have 5 children, Cayla (34), Connie (32), Lauren (32), Kristin (29), and Morgan (26). Coach Wilson coaches JH volleyball, basketball and track, and teaches JH girls PE and pre-athletics at PT Middle School. |
Chris Yoder
Coach Yoder, a Pine Tree alumnus, is in his third year as our Lady Pirates Head Soccer Coach. He will be teaching Digital and Interactive Media as well as Audio/Video at the high school. He has four children, Luke (19), Jojo (18), DJ (8), and Anna (8). Coach Yoder has previous coaching experience at Nacogdoches HS (1 year), Longview HS (12 years), and Kilgore HS (1 year). |
