Meet Coach Portley

Coach Portley is graduate of Texas A&M-Commerce University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Sports Studies. Coach Portley previously coached at Overton High School where they were State Champions in 2005 & 2006 in powerlifting.  He is currently the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association Region 3 Div. 1 Director; starting his 6th year.  This past season the Lady Pirates won their 2nd Region 3 Div. 1 Championship.  He will be coaching football, and powerlifting and teaching in the Special Ed. Dept. for us at Pine Tree HS. He has two children:  Dominique (25) who currently is a graduate student at the University of Texas at Austin, and Adrian (23) who is a 3rd grade teacher at Johnston McQueen.  He is also, expecting his first granddaughter (Spring 2021). He is currently engaged to Lori Schave (July 2020).  She is a 8th grade science teacher & cheer coach at Foster Middle School and has an incoming freshmen at Pine Tree High School Grayson (14) and Addyson (10) a 5th grader at Hudson Pep.

Meet Coach Ellis

Coach Ellis is our Strength & Conditioning Director and is in his 15th year coaching at the High School and Collegiate level.  He holds a Master of Education in Kinesiology from the University of Texas at Tyler.  He is certified by the USAW as a Sports Performance Coach and the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Performance Enhancing Specialist.  Coach Ellis is also Safe Sport Certified and has completed the USADA Coach’s Advantage Program.  This allows Coach Ellis to become 1 of 75 Strength Coaches in the State of Texas to be named in the directory for the United States of America Weightlifting. Coach Ellis is also a member of the National High School Strength Coaches Association.  He played baseball at Tyler Junior College and the University of Arkansas at Monticello.  He returned to coach at Tyler Junior College after graduation from UAM and won a National Championship in 2007 as an assistant coach.  Ellis has been a Strength & Conditioning Director at Henderson ISD, Brownsboro ISD, and also Frankston ISD.  Coach Ellis and his wife Allison have a 12 year old daughter named Cadence and a 3 year old son named Cannon.
